For those of you who may not know, after 3 tumultuous years of trying to conceive which ultimately resulted in an IVF journey (check out my insta for the full story!) my husband and I are very excited and expecting our little miracle at the end of April. I will be on maternity leave from the end of March until October 2024.

Who out there experiences period pain?  Period pain is super common, but it’s not normal and shouldn’t simply be accepted as part of the female experience. It’s estimated that 45-95% of women experience painful periods 

First of all there are actually 2 different types of period pain: primary and secondary. And this is really important - as they can be treated very different, depending on the underlying causes.

Let’s talk about another potential period problem - experiencing periods that are too light, or hypomenorrhea. 

You might be thinking, well that sounds wayyyy better than heavy periods!! But as with everything, there is always that goldilocks zone - not too heavy, not too light, we want our period to be “just right”. 

I’m here to tell you friend, the ideal period is a blood loss of 50mL. If you are losing more than this, or more than 80mL/more than 2.5 tablespoons of blood over your menstrual bleed, this is a heavy period!

PCOS ladies listen up! A new study has shown that a combination of resveratrol and myoinositol are more effective than metformin plus pioglitazone in improving menstrual regularity, hirsutism (abnormal hair growth) and regulating hormone levels in obese women with PCOS. 

Did you know that Hashimotos is the most common cause of hypothyroidism?

Unlike in non-immune mediated hypothyroidism, simply treating/supporting the thyroid by providing the nutrients needed for thyroid function (iodine, selenium, zinc etc) is not enough in Hashimotos. Instead of treating the thyroid, we need to regulate the immune system to address the autoimmune attack that is occurring against your thyroid.
